Plain Rice

Plain rice is a basic dish preparation. As I have lots of recipes that go well with the rice, I am adding it here, on my blog list. Many of us use different methods to make rice, some of us cook it in a pressure cooker, some of us use a rice cooker, some like to cook it in a microwave and few folks like me, enjoy cooking it the traditional way on a gas/stove.
So here is the method, it is easy, try it :)
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup Rice (I use Basmati)
  • 4 cups water
  • pinch salt(optional)
Preparation:
  • Wash and drain the rice couple of times.
  • In a vessel, add rice, water and salt.
  • On a medium-high heat cook the rice for 20-22 minutes.
  • You will see that the rice is cooked and soft. 
  • Switch off the gas and drain all the remaining water in a colander. Let the rice sit for 3-4 minutes in a colander till all the water is drained. Now transfer the rice from the colander to a serving bowl.
  • Soft, fluffy rice is ready to be served.
Nutrition Fact: Rice is low in calories. High in carbohydrate content and therefore, acts as a fuel to our body and aids in normal functioning of the brain. It improves bowel movements and helps in metabolism. It does not contain cholesterol, sodium or fat. It forms an integral part of healthy diet.
Note:* Studies show that white rice is stripped of many nutrients and a new method of cooking is introduced where you cook the rice with 1 tsp of oil and freeze it for 12 hours before you consume it.
More research is awaited on this method of cooking :)
